Red buckeye (Aesculus pavia L.) is a deciduous shrub or small tree belonging to the Sapindaceae family. Native to the southeastern United States, it is widely recognized for its stunning clusters of bright red flowers that appear in the spring.

This species thrives in moist, rich, well-drained soils. While it can adapt to various soil types, it prefers sites that retain moisture without becoming waterlogged. It performs best in partial shade, as the foliage is prone to scorching in intense, direct afternoon sunlight.

Cultural requirements include consistent watering during the establishment phase and throughout dry summer months. Mulching the root zone is highly recommended to maintain consistent soil moisture levels and protect the roots from extreme temperature fluctuations.
