The Plantier horse chestnut (Aesculus × plantierensis) is a hybrid tree belonging to the Sapindaceae family. It is a sterile cross between Aesculus hippocastanum and Aesculus carnea, combining the visual appeal of its parents while producing very few or no fruit, which makes it highly desirable for urban landscape design.
The tree thrives in deep, fertile, and well-drained soils. It prefers a position in full sun to partial shade. Protection from strong, drying winds is essential, especially in the early stages of establishment, to prevent shoot damage and ensure healthy structural development.
Agricultural practices for this cultivar involve deep watering during periods of extended drought. Adding organic mulch around the root zone helps maintain soil moisture levels and improves the long-term nutritional profile of the soil.
