The Kapur tree (Dryobalanops aromatica) is a majestic evergreen species belonging to the Dipterocarpaceae family. It is one of the most prominent tall trees in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, characterized by its straight trunk and significant height, which can exceed 60 meters.

Native to Borneo, Sumatra, and the Malay Peninsula, this species thrives in deep, fertile soils that provide adequate drainage. It is highly dependent on a humid tropical environment where rainfall is distributed evenly throughout the year, ensuring consistent water availability for the plant.

Climate requirements include high temperatures, typically between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius, and consistently high humidity. The species does not tolerate arid conditions or extreme temperature fluctuations, which makes it suitable only for specific tropical agricultural zones.

The cultivation of this species requires careful site selection and management of the canopy cover. Young seedlings are sensitive to direct sunlight, so professional agrotechnical practices involve gradual exposure to light to ensure the survival and vigor of the young trees as they mature.

The plant is economically valued for its high-quality timber and the production of camphor, commonly referred to as Borneo camphor.
