Dipterocarpus hasseltii is a magnificent evergreen tree belonging to the Dipterocarpaceae family. This crop is a typical representative of the tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
For successful growth, the tree requires a humid tropical climate with abundant rainfall throughout the year and no significant dry season. Optimal temperatures range between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius.
The crop prefers deep, well-drained alluvial soils or humus-rich loams. A crucial condition for seedling development is protection from direct sunlight during the early stages and maintaining sufficient soil moisture levels.
The tree is characterized by a massive, straight trunk that can reach heights of up to 45–50 meters. The canopy features dense foliage, and the seeds possess characteristic wings, which facilitate their wind dispersal in natural conditions.
The economic value of the species is attributed to its high-quality timber, which is widely used in construction, furniture manufacturing, and cabinetry. Additionally, the plant is valued for the extraction of natural resins used in local industry.

The main threats to plantations are fungal infections of the root system, occurring when water drainage is inadequate. Pathogen attacks lead to reduced growth rates and can cause the death of young specimens.
Pests, such as stem borers, pose a serious danger to mature trees. Damage to the bark by insects creates pathways for secondary infections, significantly degrading the timber quality.
Climate change and the over-exploitation of natural habitats lead to a decline in the species population. Within forestry management, strict control over the phytosanitary status in nurseries is required.
Improper agrotechnical practices during seedling transplantation often cause plant stress. This makes the tree vulnerable to non-specific diseases prevalent in disturbed ecosystems.
