Bloodberry tabebuia

Tabebuia haemantha, commonly known as the Bloodberry tabebuia, belongs to the Bignoniaceae family. It is a stunning deciduous tree native to the forests of Puerto Rico, known for its vibrant red flowers that cover the branches during the blooming season.

The tree thrives in full sun conditions, which are essential for producing its characteristic dense canopy and profuse floral displays. It is highly adapted to tropical regions and performs best in climates that remain warm throughout the year.

In terms of soil, the species is remarkably tolerant of rocky or calcareous substrates, provided they are well-drained. Proper soil aeration is critical, as the roots are sensitive to hypoxia caused by waterlogging during the rainy season.

While the Bloodberry tabebuia is drought-tolerant once established, supplemental irrigation is beneficial during extreme dry spells to maintain foliage vigor. Young specimens require more consistent moisture until their root systems are fully developed.

Maintenance includes periodic pruning to shape the tree and remove dead or crossing branches. This practice not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the tree but also promotes healthy air circulation throughout the foliage.
