The economic damage caused by Ixodid ticks is significant. By feeding on the blood of cattle, sheep, and other livestock, they cause severe anemia, weight loss, and reduced milk production. Furthermore, the lesions left by tick bites serve as entry points for secondary bacterial infections, complicating the health status of the herd.

The life cycle of Ixodid ticks is complex and generally involves four stages: egg, larva, nymph, and adult. Each developmental stage typically requires a blood meal to progress to the next phase, which drives the high frequency of host-seeking behavior observed in pastures, meadows, and areas with dense vegetation.

Beyond direct physical harm, Ixodidae act as vectors for various pathogens, including protozoan and bacterial agents. These diseases, such as babesiosis and anaplasmosis, pose a chronic threat to the industry, often leading to mortality, high veterinary costs, and the need for expensive quarantine measures.

Integrated pest management and protection measures include:
