These insects attack a diverse range of crops and wild plants. One of the most notable members of the family is Hyalesthes obsoletus, known for transmitting the stolbur phytoplasma in solanaceous crops. Affected plants typically include grapevines, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and eggplants.
