The biology of orb-weavers revolves around their ability to spin sophisticated radial webs. They are highly efficient at detecting vibrations, which allows them to capture various insects. Their life cycle involves overwintering as egg sacs or juvenile spiders in sheltered areas, such as bark crevices or dense vegetation, before emerging to hunt throughout the growing season.

The primary 'damage' caused by Araneidae is limited to the physical presence of their webs, which can accumulate dust or interfere with manual harvesting in greenhouses or orchards. However, they do not feed on plant sap, leaves, or roots. They do not transmit plant viruses or diseases, making them biologically neutral to plant health.

From an agronomical standpoint, these spiders serve as a natural biological control agent. By trapping insects that frequently attack crops, they contribute to the reduction of pest density. Their predatory activity significantly helps in maintaining the balance of an ecosystem, especially in orchards where chemical insecticide use is intended to be minimized.

Management of Araneidae should focus on preservation rather than eradication. Because they feed on major pests, it is recommended to avoid broad-spectrum insecticides that indiscriminately kill beneficial arthropods. If web removal is necessary for aesthetic or operational reasons, manual cleaning is sufficient. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies typically encourage the presence of these spiders to support a healthy, sustainable agro-ecosystem.
