These pests are generalist feeders and can damage a wide variety of crops. They frequently infest vineyards, fruit trees such as apples and pears, various ornamentals, and vegetables like tomatoes. By consuming both leaves and young shoots, they deprive plants of the necessary nutrients for fruit development and can significantly stunt growth during the peak of the growing season.

The biological development of Phaneropteridae follows a gradual metamorphosis consisting of egg, nymph, and adult stages.
