Chaika

The "Chayka" rice variety (Oryza sativa L.) is a late-maturing variety recommended for cultivation in the Krasnodar Krai and Rostov Oblast. It is included in the State Register for the North Caucasus region and is characterized by a vegetative period ranging from 118 to 131 days. The variety is distinguished by its high yield, which averages 86.1 centners per hectare across the region, significantly exceeding the yields of standard varieties. The maximum yield was recorded in Krasnodar Krai, reaching 114.2 centners per hectare.

The "Chayka" rice possesses several important agronomic advantages. It is highly resistant to lodging and shattering, which contributes to harvest retention and reduced losses during harvesting. The stem and panicle are of medium length, while the grain is threshed, of medium length and semi-circular shape, with a weight of 1000 grains ranging from 29 to 34 grams. The absence or weak pubescence on the penultimate leaf blade and the absence of anthocyanin pigmentation on the awns are characteristic morphological features of the variety.

In terms of technological and culinary qualities, the "Chayka" variety distinguishes itself with excellent indicators, making it valuable for the food industry and consumers. Furthermore, the variety has moderate resistance to pyricularia, which enhances its reliability under growing conditions. The pedigree of the variety is linked to the "Sonet" variety, and the originator is LLC "Grain Company Poltava".
