Donata potato is a high-yielding early-maturing table variety developed by German breeders EUROPLANT PFLANZENZUCHT GMBH. The vegetation period is 65-70 days, with the first harvest possible as early as the 45th day after emergence. Tubers are elongated-oval, large, weighing 105 to 186 grams. The skin is smooth, yellow, with surface-set eyes, and the flesh is light yellow. Starch content ranges from 16.4-18.9%, making this variety ideal for making mashed potatoes, baking, and frying, including French fries.
The Donata variety has excellent taste qualities and belongs to the culinary type CD. It is highly susceptible to softening, which ensures a tender texture of finished dishes. The yield is high, ranging from 203 to 365 centners per hectare, with a marketability of 77-91% and storability of 94%. It is recommended to grow on good soils with even distribution of water and nutrients, at a planting density of about 38,000 plants per hectare. For disease prevention, treatment against rhizoctonia is recommended.
The Donata potato is resistant to several diseases, including potato scab pathogen, golden potato cyst nematode, crinkly mosaic, and leaf curl. Due to its hardiness and disease resistance, this variety is suitable for both home and commercial cultivation. Donata combines high yield, excellent taste qualities, and reliable cultivation, making it an attractive choice for farmers and potato enthusiasts.
