Fotinia potato is a medium-maturing table variety with a vegetation period of 80 to 100 days. This variety features elongated-oval tubers with smooth red skin and white flesh. The tuber eyes are shallow, facilitating easy processing. The plants are upright, medium-height with thick stems and large light-green leaves, giving the plant a distinctive appearance.
Fotinia has a high starch content — from 16 to 17% — ensuring good cookability and making this potato versatile for culinary use. It is excellent for boiling, frying, soups, and various dishes, combining well with vegetables, meat, and fish. The taste qualities of this variety are highly appreciated due to its rich and pleasant flavor, which makes it popular among consumers.
The variety exhibits high resistance to several diseases, including potato blight, phytophthora, wet bacterial rot, common scab, and stem nematode. Thanks to this, Fotinia is suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including arid regions and nutrient-poor soils. The yield of this variety reaches 45–50 tons per hectare, making it attractive for commercial cultivation in steppe and forest-steppe zones.
