EL MUNDO — an early-maturing table potato variety of Dutch selection, intended for obtaining a high-quality yield. The plant is characterized by a tall, upright bush with emerald-green leaves and white-violet flowers. Tubers are oval, large, with yellow skin and light-yellow flesh, weighing from 106 to 135 grams. Starch content in tubers is 11.6–13.6%, which ensures good taste and allows the potato to be used for soups and frying, with flesh that barely breaks down, belonging to the culinary type AB.
The variety is distinguished by high yield — from 248 to 345 centners per hectare, with maximum yields up to 507 centners per hectare. The first harvest is possible as early as the 45th day after emergence, making EL MUNDO an excellent choice for early harvesting. The number of tubers per plant varies from 10 to 28. Marketability reaches 79–98%, and storability — 97%, indicating good preservation and suitability for transportation. The potato is resistant to mechanical damage, which further enhances its commercial attractiveness.
EL MUNDO exhibits high resistance to several diseases, including the potato late blight pathogen and golden potato cyst nematode. It also shows moderate resistance to phytophthora, leaf curling viruses, crinkly mosaic, and striped mosaic. Thanks to these qualities and adaptability to various soil types, the variety is widely used in different regions and is suitable for cultivation in the Northwest, Central Chernozem, and North Caucasus regions of Russia.
