Festuca «Joanna» is a highly effective variety of red oats designed for cultivation in temperate climates. The seeds are large, with a high protein content (13–15%) and starch (65–68%), which ensures good stickiness during baking and increases the nutritional value of finished products. Under optimal temperatures of 18–22 °C and soil moisture of 60–70%, yields can reach up to 12 t/ha, and the grain is easily processed and suitable as both animal feed and for flour production.
Sowing is recommended from April 1st to 30th at a soil temperature of +5 °C. Sowing density should be 80–100 seeds per m², which ensures dense coverage and resistance to trampling. The variety prefers fertile, well-drained soils with a pH of 6–7.5; nitrogen and phosphorus deficiencies reduce yields by 15–20%. Under proper storage conditions, the grain retains freshness for up to six months at a temperature of 4–8 °C.
«Joanna» is characterized by resistance to fungal diseases such as mold rot and powdery mildew, as well as to viral pathogens. The variety has moderate susceptibility to cereal leaf blight disease; therefore, regular monitoring of the crop condition is required. Thanks to its high decorative qualities and resistance to trampling, Festuca «Joanna» is suitable for both agricultural production and creating ornamental lawns in temperate climatic zones.
