Fescue BOREAL

Focus on Reliability: Boreal Fescue

When establishing long-term forage stands, seed selection is the critical factor for success. The "Boreal" variety from John Zuelzer & Son is a proven solution for those seeking a balance between biomass productivity and biological resilience. Unlike many introduced varieties, this cultivar is adapted to challenging climatic conditions, making it a top choice for regions with demanding agricultural environments.

Genetically Embedded Protection

The primary competitive advantage of this variety lies in its natural immunity. Boreal fescue exhibits significant resistance to a complex of pathogens that often reduce the yield of less hardy varieties by up to 20%:

• Root Rot: The robust root system is less susceptible to soil-borne infections.
• Powdery Mildew: Developed in cooperation with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the genetics ensure high leaf surface resistance to fungal outbreaks, even under high humidity conditions.
• General Rots: High vigor allows the plant to move quickly through growth stages that are typically vulnerable to decay.

Who Should Choose Boreal?

Boreal is ideal for operations focused on full-cycle livestock production. Its primary application is the establishment of high-quality forage. The stand is characterized by rapid regrowth after mowing or grazing, ensuring consistent yields over multiple seasons.

It is important to note: this variety thrives with proper agronomic management. While highly resilient, it reaches its full potential in fertile soils with adequate mineral nutrition. If you are looking for a "miracle" grass for neglected plots, Boreal might fall short; however, for professional forage production, it acts as a reliable workhorse, providing predictable results without the need for intensive fungicide applications.
