This diminutive size is an evolutionary adaptation that allows them to parasitize the eggs of other insects with extreme precision.

The life cycle of Mymaridae involves the female locating the eggs of a host insect. Once a host egg is identified, the wasp deposits her own egg inside it. The developing larva feeds on the yolk of the host egg, effectively destroying the pest before it can hatch and cause damage to the host plant.

Mymaridae are not plant pests; they do not consume leaves, stems, or fruits. Instead, they provide a valuable ecosystem service by suppressing pests such as leafhoppers, planthoppers, and various beetles. Their presence in a field is a sign of a healthy, functioning ecosystem capable of natural pest regulation.
