Description MATTHUS
Wheat variety Matthus — a high-yielding, mid-season soft wheat variety developed by the German company Strube and registered in the registry since 2018. The variety is characterized by a two-stemmed growth type and is suitable for both winter and spring cultivation. Due to its early emergence and rapid spring development, Matthus exhibits early heading and good grain filling, contributing to a stable yield of high-quality grain. Its main use is bread-making, confirmed by its high protein content (13.2–13.5%) and gluten content (27.2–28.7%), as well as dough strength ranging from 260–280 units.

The variety exhibits high resistance to adverse environmental factors and diseases. Its drought tolerance is rated 8–9 points, enabling successful cultivation under water-deficit conditions. Matthus is resistant to powdery mildew, brown and yellow rust, septoria, fusarium of the ear, and root rots, and also shows high resistance to lodging and grain shattering. The cold tolerance of the variety allows it to withstand temperatures down to -16 °C, making it suitable for cultivation in the forest-steppe, steppe, and forested regions of Ukraine.

Plant height varies from 80 to 120 cm, with 1000-grain weight ranging from 45–55 g. The recommended seeding rate depends on sowing time: approximately 4 million seeds per hectare for early spring sowings, 4.5 million for optimal autumn sowings, and up to 5 million seeds per hectare for late autumn sowings. Average yield in winter form reaches 7.2–9.4 t/ha across various regions. Due to its adaptability to soils and vigorous tillering, Matthus is a versatile and reliable choice for farmers seeking a stable and high-quality wheat harvest.
