Odessa Wisdom

Winter wheat variety 'Odessa Wisdom' is a high-yielding, versatile variety developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Testing in Odessa. The variety features a semi-compact growth habit, ensuring good stand establishment and regeneration after damage. In terms of type, it resembles the well-known 'Odessa Albatross' variety, with heading and ripening times matching those of the 'Antonovka' variety. Plant height ranges from 106–115 cm, and thousand-grain weight is 42–45 g.

'Odessa Wisdom' exhibits high resistance to major diseases, including rust, septoria, fusarium, root rot, powdery mildew, as well as lodging and stem breakage, with resistance ratings of 5–6 points. The variety’s cold and drought tolerance are rated at 8–9 points, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in the steppe and forest-steppe zones of Ukraine. Yield potential ranges from 7.6 to 11.5 tons per hectare.

The variety shows strong positive response to high nitrogen fertilizer application, allowing effective use under intensive farming technologies. Recommended seeding rate is 4.0–5.0 million viable seeds per hectare. Due to its combination of high productivity, disease resistance, and adaptability to various agroclimatic conditions, 'Odessa Wisdom' is a promising choice for grain production.
