Sugar beet Kristall

Technical Profile of the Kristal Sugar Beet Hybrid

The Kristal hybrid, developed by Maribo Seed, represents a high-performance triploid Z-type sugar beet variety. Engineered to maximize sugar extraction per hectare, this hybrid bridges the gap between high crop yields and excellent processing quality. Its triploid genetic makeup ensures high crop uniformity, which is essential for optimized machine harvesting and consistent root development.

Disease Resistance and Field Performance

The field health of the Kristal hybrid is backed by robust genetic resistance, reducing the reliance on aggressive chemical intervention. Its performance against primary threats is a key factor in yield stability:

• Cercospora leaf spot: High tolerance levels allow for extended canopy preservation, ensuring late-season sugar accumulation.
• Powdery mildew: The hybrid effectively limits pathogen spread, maintaining photosynthetic efficiency.
• Viral mosaic and diseases: Built-in genetic resistance protects against systemic viral infections that typically deform the leaf rosette and stunt growth.
• Root rots and blackleg: Strong early-stage defenses ensure better plant establishment, reducing the need for re-seeding and maintaining target plant populations.

Processing Qualities

With a sugar content ranging from 18% to 19%, the Kristal hybrid provides a high-quality product for processing facilities. The structural integrity of the roots, a result of research by Maribo Seed and Danisco Seed, ensures minimized post-harvest losses during storage. Kristal is a reliable choice for producers aiming for predictable outcomes in varied climate zones, backed by the specialized breeding programs of DLF Beet Seed ApS.
