Sugar beet Scout

Technological excellence of the Scout hybrid

The sugar beet hybrid "Scout" by the Belgian breeder Sesvanderhave Nv/Sa is a triploid variety engineered for intensive farming with a focus on yield stability. Its genetic architecture is designed to balance tonnage and sugar content, classifying it as an NE-Z type. This dual-purpose strategy allows growers to mitigate risks caused by fluctuating environmental conditions during the growing season.

Phytosanitary defense and resistance profile

A key technical feature of this hybrid is its built-in resistance to rhizomania. In field practice, this protects the root system from the pathogen, even in infested soils, which is critical for maintaining maximum yield potential. Furthermore, the selection profile of Scout includes high tolerance to various leaf and soil-borne diseases:

• Cercospora: inhibition of fungal development during the canopy closure phase and beyond.
• Powdery mildew: protection of the foliage essential for photosynthetic activity.
• Damping-off and rots: improved seedling survival under early spring stress conditions.

Biochemical characteristics

The triploid structure of the hybrid ensures high germination energy and uniform root development. Under standard agronomic conditions, sugar content typically ranges from 15–16% to 18–19%, depending on the growing zone and solar radiation levels. Combining a standard yield type with high sugar potential makes "Scout" an efficient tool for optimizing logistics and processing quality at sugar mills.
