Spring barley of the Arhan variety is a medium-early tall feed variety intended for cultivation in various regions of Russia, including the Northern, North-Western, Central, Volga-Vyatskaya, and Central Black Earth. It is recommended for cultivation in such regions as Vologda, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Leningrad, Yaroslavl, as well as in the Republics of Mari El and Chuvash. The vegetative period lasts from 76 to 86 days, which allows the variety to mature several days earlier than standard analogues such as Argamak and Kretchet. The variety is characterized by high drought resistance and lodging resistance, which makes it a reliable choice for various climatic conditions.
The plant is characterized by medium or large height with long or medium two-sided ears and raised branches. The heads have a drooping shape with medium or large length awns covered with a waxy coating, which contributes to protection from adverse factors. Floral scales are white, medium length, also covered with a waxy coating. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 37 to 40 grams, which indicates good seed material quality.
The Arhan variety has high resistance to main barley diseases, such as powdery smut and brown rust, which significantly reduces crop losses and increases its quality. The yield of the variety reaches an average of 34.0 centners per hectare, with maximum indicators up to 78.4 centners per hectare. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, barley Arhan is an excellent choice for feed use in various agro-climatic zones.
