Description OPOLNYI
The Opolnyi oat variety is the result of joint work by the Upper Volga Federal Agrarian Research Center and the N. I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Industry (NEMCHINOVKA). It is characterized by high and stable yield, which in the conditions of the Upper Volga region over the period 2015-2018 reached an average of 5.64 t/ha, exceeding the indicators of the standard oat variety Yakov. In wet years, yields can reach 7.58 t/ha, while the variety tolerates excessive moisture and maintains stable yield even in dry periods. Opolnyi is characterized by a short and strong stem, which prevents lodging at high yields, and plant heights range from 75 to 107 cm depending on weather conditions.

This mid-ripening variety with a growing period of about 89 days has high ecological plasticity and adaptability to various soil and climatic conditions, including gray forest, sod-podzolic, and chernozem soils. Due to the dense small panicle and high filling of medium-sized thick-seeded grain, Opolnyi ensures high quality yield. The variety is also characterized by high immunity to a number of diseases, including helminthosporiosis, stem rust and leaf rust, as well as resistance to loose smut.

Opolnyi is intended for cultivation for fodder purposes using both intensive and traditional technologies in the North-Western, Central and Central Chernozem regions. The recommended sowing rate is 180-200 kg/ha. An important factor of successful growing is the correct application of fertilizers and crop rotations, which contributes to optimal use of productive moisture and increasing yields. In particular, the application of mineral fertilizers at rates of 60-80 kg/ha nitrogen and sowing after winter wheat contribute to achieving high yield and grain quality indicators.
