BEARDED FEED PEAS

BEARDED FEED PEAS is a late-maturing cultivar of field pea (Pisum sativum L.) intended for growing in the green and raw material supply chain. Plants are characterized by a climbing form with a height of 88 to 168 cm, a light green coloration of stems and leaves, as well as a bearded leaf structure. Pods of this cultivar are shattering, yellowish-white in color, relatively small, with a length of about 4.2 cm and a width of 0.9 cm, containing an average of 4.2 seeds. Seeds have light, thin skin and light yellow cotyledons with a pinkish tint, the mass of 1000 seeds varies from 130 to 194 g. The vegetative period is 91-103 days, seedlings appear on the 10-15th day after sowing.

The cultivar differs in high yield: average dry matter yield reaches 63.8 c/ha, and maximum – up to 133 c/ha. Yield of green mass at state variety testing sites in Russia can reach 863 c/ha, and seeds – up to 52 c/ha. Peas BEARDED FEED PEAS are resistant to lodging and shattering, have high drought tolerance, which makes them a reliable choice for various climatic conditions. Protein content in dry matter reaches 19%, which makes this cultivar a valuable feed component.

Peas belong to the legume family and is a hardy crop capable of withstanding temperature drops and excess moisture provided there is no water stagnation. Feed peas are grown to obtain grain and green feed mass, which is widely used in animal husbandry due to its high protein content, comparable to meat. BEARDED FEED PEAS cultivar is recommended for growing in the Volga-Vyatka, North Caucasus and Middle Volga regions, which confirms its adaptability and stability in various agro-climatic zones.
