Lupine "Chernihivets" – yellow fast-maturing variety, developed by the Chernihiv Institute of Agro-Industrial Production of NAAN using individual selection from the Martin/hybrid combination line 3436. Flowers have a lemon-yellow color, and pods are straight or slightly curved with a sharp tip, measuring 4.8–5.3 cm in length, containing three to five seeds (maximum six). Seeds have a characteristic speckled pattern of brown-black on a white background and an oval-kidney shape. The weight of 1000 seeds is approximately 113 g.
The variety is noted for high resistance to fusarium – an average infection rate of only 7.8% on an infectious background – and does not lodge. Intensive nitrogen-fixing ability ensures fodder protein yield within 1.31–1.69 t/ha (13.1–16.9 c/ha), making it an effective protein source for livestock. Average grain yield is 2.22 t/ha, green mass – 69.1 t/ha, and dry matter – 9.05 t/ha (691 c/ha and 90.5 c/ha, respectively). Protein content in seeds is 41.5%, and in the dry matter of green mass – 18.6%.
"Chernihivets" is suitable for use as a fodder plant in agriculture, providing biologically balanced animal feed. The recommended sowing rate is 1.0–1.2 million pieces per hectare with conventional row planting (inter-row width 15 cm) or 0.6–0.8 million pieces per hectare with wide-row planting (45 cm). The variety grows well under conditions in the central and southern parts of Ukraine and is often used in combination with other fodder crops.
