Volynskyi 1 Lupin – an alkaloid-free variety developed at the Volyn State Agricultural Experimental Station of the Institute of Potato Growing of the NAAS. It belongs to the group of legumes and is distinguished by high resistance to diseases, including fusarium, as well as good adaptation to various soils.
The variety is characterized by high yield and resistance to drought and low temperatures. The flowering period is from June to August, during which plants form lilac-yellow inflorescences. Due to the high content of phytoncides and nitrogen, Volynskyi 1 Lupin is actively used as a cover crop in crop rotations after sunflower and rapeseed, as well as livestock feed.
Alkaloid-free seeds make it safe for the food industry: it can serve as a soy substitute in various products. The variety has already been recognized in Ukraine and is in demand on the international market, however, production is limited due to a lack of sown areas. Proper care includes regular watering, removal of dry shoots, and timely fertilization, which minimizes the impact of fungal diseases and pests.
In general, Volynskyi 1 Lupin represents an effective alternative to soy with a wide range of applications – from agricultural systems to fodder crops, while ensuring safety for humans and animals.
