Description Leader
Lupin is a valuable cover-crop and fodder plant, possessing high nitrogen fixation capabilities and the ability to enrich the soil with biological nitrogen up to 200 kg/ha, as well as increase organic matter content. The plant features a well-developed root system: roots can reach a depth of 1.5–2 meters, ensuring deep soil loosening and drought resistance. Thanks to this, lupin is especially useful for restoring heavy and depleted soils after harvesting early crops, such as cabbage or potatoes.

In terms of green mass yield, lupin exceeds clover and white peas by twice: from one square meter of land, you can get up to 6 kg of green mass. Meanwhile, the grain contains from 36% to 42% protein, making it an excellent source of complete nutrition for animals and a potential ingredient for compound feeds. Depending on the variety (yellow, white, narrow-leafed), the plant shows different soil requirements: yellow lupin grows well on less fertile soils, white requires more fertile soil, and narrow-leafed prefers loams.

Lupin is easily grown in a wide range of climatic conditions and can be used both in flower beds and in vegetable fields. Seeds are usually sown in mid-summer; with proper care, the plant quickly takes root and begins to fix nitrogen thanks to symbiotic bacteria on the roots. To protect against diseases, fungicides (thiram, benomyl), insecticides (dimethoate), and herbicides (prometrine) are used. After harvesting green mass, it can be used as animal feed or as biogrout, while grain – as a component of compound feeds or even as bait for fishing due to high protein content.

Thus, lupin is a universal plant that simultaneously improves soil structure, increases its fertility, and provides high-quality feed for animals. Its ease of cultivation and high yield make it an attractive choice for both farmers and gardeners seeking sustainable agriculture.
