VIK 5 is a variety of meadow oatgrass (Festuca pratensis) intended for haymaking and pasture use. It is characterized by high winter hardiness, frost resistance, and drought tolerance: it withstands cold temperatures and periods of drying without loss of growth. The variety is resistant to most diseases and pests, and also tolerates frequent mowing well – it quickly regrows after cutting.
The yield of dry matter is 7–8 t/ha, and seed yield is 500–600 kg/ha. Due to high productivity indicators and resistance, VIK 5 is widely used in agriculture for hay and pasture production, as well as as a forage crop. The variety grows well on heavy and medium loamy soils.
The feed grain of the variety is characterized by high protein and starch content, making it a valuable source of nutrients for livestock. VIK 5 is also used in the production of oat flour. Due to the combination of high yield, resistance to adverse conditions, and quality feed properties, this variety is a reliable choice for farmers seeking to ensure stable and efficient product output.
