Oat variety 'Morshanskaya4' is a winter, highly frost-resistant and moderately drought-resistant variety obtained by individual and mass selection from a VIR sample. It differs in dry matter yield of 6.5–7 t/ha and good competitive ability in grass mixtures, allowing to obtain two to three cuttings. Crude protein content of about 10.6% makes it a valuable fodder product for livestock.
Fodder characteristics of the variety confirm its high nutritional value: protein 12–14%, fat 70–75%. Thanks to resistance to diseases of leaves and root system, as well as fungal infections, 'Morshanskaya4' maintains quality even under unfavorable conditions. The variety is easily processed in fodder mixtures and is widely used as animal feed.
For cultivation, it is recommended to use it on meadows and slopes with peat and meadow soils, where it shows the best productivity. It is suitable for both hay and pasture use, especially in the central-black-earth and middle-Volga regions, where the variety has been successfully grown since 1968.
