Fescue PSKOVSKAYA MESTNAYA

A Reliable Foundation for Long-Term Forage

Meadow fescue 'Pskovskaya Mestnaya' is a specialized variety developed by the FGUP Educational and Experimental Farm 'Udrayskoye'. It has earned its reputation in the agricultural sector as a resilient, cold-hardy solution for creating high-yielding hayfields and pastures in temperate climates.

Agronomic Profile

• Culture type: A robust perennial grass adapted to Northern and Central European conditions.
• Intended use: Establishing permanent pastures, hayfields, and productive grass mixtures.
• Key value: Superior winter hardiness and moisture tolerance, making it ideal for river floodplains and reclaimed peatlands.

In intensive livestock farming, this variety is prized for its consistent green mass production. 'Pskovskaya Mestnaya' demonstrates excellent palatability, providing high-quality forage throughout the growing season. When included in seed mixtures, the variety contributes to the longevity of the stand; with proper management, the crop maintains its productivity for 5 to 7 years.

Application and Performance

The developer focused on creating a cultivar highly responsive to mineral fertilizers and water availability. Unlike more sensitive introduced varieties, 'Pskovskaya Mestnaya' shows strong resistance to common fungal pathogens typical of humid environments. It is recommended for farms focused on high-quality hay and haylage production, where both total yield and the long-term integrity of the sod are essential for sustainable land use.
