Kazanskaya oatgrass – a decorative perennial grass that features a compact height ranging from 15 to 60 cm and a dense conical leaf shape. The leaves have a pale-blue or blue-grey hue, sometimes with a light green tint, giving the plant a fresh and vibrant look. At the end of spring, tall panicles appear, creating a striking contrast with the dense foliage.
This grass is perfect for use in alpine gardens, flower beds, containers, and as a ground cover. It grows quickly, reaching full height within the first season, and does not require frequent watering – moderate moisture is sufficient, while it is drought-resistant. Oatgrass tolerates a wide range of soils: from poor to moderately fertile, as well as acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline soils. The main thing is to ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogging.
For planting, it is recommended to dig a hole 1.5–2 times deeper than the root mass, ensuring good ventilation and drainage. After planting, the plant does not require special fertilization; standard garden soil or peat substrates are suitable without extra fertilizers. If necessary, decorative panicles can be pruned at the end of summer to maintain a compact form until winter. Due to its cold hardiness and easy care, Kazanskaya oatgrass becomes an excellent choice for both open areas and container compositions.
