Sakharovskaya meadow fescue (Festuca pratensis Huds.) – this is a highly productive winter oat variety intended for growing in northern and temperate climatic zones. The variety is distinguished by high yields of up to 6–7 t/ha under optimal conditions, strong frost resistance down to –12 °C, which allows it to be sown in October-November and maintain growth even in January cold. Large, dense grains are easily processed on mechanical machines, and a protein content of 13–15 % makes the variety suitable for producing high-quality flour.
Sakharovskaya meadow fescue has good tolerance to fungal diseases – “powdery” (Fusarium head blight), “rust” – as well as bacterial pathogens such as “creeping mildew” and “spot blotch”. With proper agricultural techniques, harmful microorganisms do not show pronounced damage. The variety is resistant to mechanical damage during transportation due to its moderately firm soil form.
For successful cultivation, it is recommended to use agricultural soils with a pH of 6–7, medium-sandy or clayey, providing a fertile temperature of 15–20 °C and soil moisture of 60–70 %. Sowing is carried out in October-November, and with proper fertilization, the yield can reach up to 4.5 t/ha. Sakharovskaya meadow fescue is widely used for producing flour, cereals, and feed; it does not contain genetic modifications and complies with regulatory documents on safety of agricultural crops.
