Reed Fescue (Festuca arundinacea) – a perennial grass widely used in landscaping and lawn creation. Seeds are sold at a price of 310 UAH per kilogram. The seeding rate is 30-40 kg/ha (or 3-4 kg/100 sq.m), with seeds sown to a depth of up to 1 cm, evenly distributed over the area (35-45 grams/sq.m). After sowing, the soil should be tilled and cleared of weeds; daily watering is required to keep the soil moist until seedlings emerge. When sprouting, cut at a height of 8-10 cm, then maintain a height of 4-6 cm, with watering and fertilization as needed.
Reed fescue is distinguished by high drought resistance: the root system can reach a depth of 1 to 5 meters, ensuring access to moisture even with limited watering. A dense grass cover of long, linear leaves forms a uniform green mass, effectively covering the soil and suppressing weed growth. The grass is resistant to erosion, soil compaction, and frost, withstands low temperatures, and easily establishes itself on sandy and rocky soil.
The application of reed fescue is multifaceted: lawns for sports facilities, park areas, reinforcement of river embankments and erosion-prone areas; decorative lawns and landscaping of flower beds. The grass recovers quickly after damage, adapts to various soil types (clay, sandy), and maintains a rich green color in any weather. Due to high yield – up to 94% crop content and seed purity of about 92%, reed fescue is a reliable choice for creating durable and decorative lawns with limited watering.
