Fescue CONTENDER

A Benchmark for High-Traffic Turf

The Dutch breeding school of Barenbrug Holland has long held a leadership position in the professional grass seed segment. The 'Contender' fescue variety was developed as a direct response to market demands for turf that can endure intense physical activity while maintaining flawless aesthetics. This variety is the go-to solution for landscapes where both durability and visual excellence are mandatory.

Key Characteristics and Adaptability

• High Wear Resistance: The dense turf density of 'Contender' makes it an ideal solution for private lawns, recreational areas, and public parks.
• Pathogen Immunity: Genetic selection has endowed this variety with significant resistance to powdery mildew and red thread, the primary challenges for fescue in fluctuating humidity conditions.
• Visual Profile: The deep, dark green leaf color creates lush, vibrant lawns that retain a premium appearance even under heavy usage.

Practical Application

Barenbrug Holland recommends 'Contender' for the establishment of premium decorative lawns where high durability is required. The recommended seeding rate is 30–40 g/m². Thanks to its biological plasticity, this variety adapts perfectly to various soil types, rapidly forming a thick sward that suppresses weed growth. It is the premier choice for those seeking a balance between the professional-grade endurance of Barenbrug genetics and ease of maintenance.
