Tomkat 1 – a variety of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea), characterized by dark green leaves of medium length and width, and narrow semi-erect stems. Leaves reach a height of up to 30 cm with autumn sowing, while the height at full flowering is 80–90 cm. Grass density is in the range of 50–70%, ensuring a dense and even carpet layer.
The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness and drought resistance, as well as good tolerance to cold periods and low humidity. Seeds are large, oval, light brown with a dense shell, which promotes rapid germination and development of a strong root system. The second year sowing when sown in September–October grows up to 25–28 cm, and the root system develops deeper roots, enhancing resistance to erosion.
Tomkat 1 is widely used as a ground cover for lawns, paths, parks, and sports grounds due to its density and wear resistance. In addition, the variety is used in agronomy for soil stabilization and erosion prevention, and can also serve as a forage crop. Resistance to diseases, including snow mold and helminthosporiosis, makes it a reliable choice for various climatic conditions.
