Sesame grass "grey Varna" seeds are a decorative perennial groundcover plant widely used in landscape design as soil-covering and background vegetation. The plant reaches a height of 25 to 50 cm and a width of approximately the same size, forming a compact bush with narrow gray‑green leaves, sometimes with a slight bluish tint. Flowers appear in June–July in the form of small light yellow panicles, which after flowering become light brown.
The grass perfectly adapts to various soils: it grows on poor, loose and sandy soils and also tolerates drought and low temperatures (down to –7 °C). The plant prefers sunny places; in partial shade, the leaves become more gray‑green and lose their decorative effect. Thanks to its unpretentiousness and resistance to adverse climatic conditions, grass is often used as a covering layer in borders, rockeries, rock gardens, gravel gardens and mixed beds.
The care of the plant is simple: moderate watering without overwatering, removal of dead flowers to stimulate growth and pruning at the beginning of spring if necessary. Possible problems include fungal infections under humid conditions and slight leaf damage by birds; however, these are usually not critical. Seeds are sold in a package of 0.1 g/5 packs.
