Festuca 'Amarone' is a perennial herbaceous plant that combines decorative qualities with practical usability. The bush is compact, dense, and spherical, reaching a height of 30–50 cm. The leaves are thin, thread-like, gathered in thick bunches; their color varies from grey-blue to purple, giving the plant an almost jeweled appearance. The flowers are small, gathered in panicle inflorescences of a greenish-purple hue, and they bloom over approximately a month in summer.
This festuca is distinguished by high frost resistance and drought tolerance, making it ideal for use in landscape design even in severe climatic conditions. It is perfect for alpine slides, rockeries, borders, mixed borders, as well as a decorative element in containers on balconies and terraces. The plant prefers sunny spots but can also grow in partial shade; the soil should be well-drained, light, loamy or clay-loam, without waterlogging.
As a basis for lawns, festuca 'Amarone' shows high seed density, dark green color, and excellent resistance to diseases, drought, and harsh winters. This makes it suitable both for decorative mixes and for sports fields where quick seeding and durable covering are required. Care is simple: it does not require frequent fertilization – early spring fertilization is sufficient; after flowering it is recommended to cut off the faded inflorescences to maintain the aesthetic look of the plant.
