KRASNODARSKAYA 50 is a variety of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea), developed by the GNK KRASNODAR RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES named after P.P. Lukyanenko and registered under number 6001807. Plants reach an average height of 80 to 90 cm at the flowering stage, have a dense medium structure (50-70%), and dark green flag leaves measuring 5-7 cm in length and 2-3 cm in width. The variety is characterized by good winter hardiness and drought resistance – it withstands up to 35-40 days without irrigation, and is also resistant to rust and most common diseases, although it may be affected by snow mold and helminthosporiosis.
The vegetative period lasts from 34 to 45 days depending on the cut, while seed maturation reaches 89-102 days. The yield of green matter fluctuates between 100 and 120 c/ha, and dry matter – 55-60 c/ha. Under optimal conditions, the variety can produce up to 8-10 t/ha of green matter, making it attractive for lawns, pastures, and fodder purposes.
KRASNODARSKAYA 50 is characterized by high protein content (≈12-13%) and good grain permeability. The variety is resistant to cold and humidity, ensuring crop stability in northern regions. It also features high technological readiness: it responds well to nitrogen fertilizers and irrigation, is suitable for irrigated meadows, hay, and silage, and its grain has good fruitfulness (70-80%). Thanks to these properties, the variety is widely used in industrial bread production and other food products, and is a valuable fodder for livestock due to its high protein (18-20%) and fiber (28-30%) content.
