The plant originates from the tropical Andean regions of South America. Because it is sensitive to frost, it is commonly cultivated as a container plant in temperate regions, requiring indoor protection during winter.

It thrives in full sun to partial shade, provided it is protected from harsh, desiccating winds. High humidity and consistent warmth are essential for maintaining active growth and promoting long-lasting floral displays.

The soil must be rich in organic matter and possess excellent drainage properties. Growers should maintain moderate soil moisture and provide frequent, diluted fertilization during the peak summer growing season.
