Torrild

Torrild — a soft winter wheat variety (Triticum aestivum L.) registered in the State Register of Plants of Ukraine in 2008. Plants are medium-height, 81–94 cm tall, with semi-erect habit and strong waxy coating on upper internodes and flag leaf sheath. Ear is pyramidal, medium density, white, medium or long, grain colored. The variety shows resistance to lodging and good winter hardiness, ensuring stable growth and yield retention under various climatic conditions. Torrild is characterized by high cold and drought tolerance, allowing cultivation across all climatic zones of the country. It demonstrates good resistance to major pathogens, including maximum resistance to powdery mildew. The variety is adapted for intensive cultivation practices with optimal mineral fertilizer rates, promoting significant yield increases. For sowing, use 250–400 seeds per square meter; seed preparation includes cleaning, calibration, and treatment with insecticidal and fungicidal protectants to obtain uniform, healthy seedlings. Average yield across regions ranges from 33.1 to 66.3 c/ha, with maximum yields reaching 85.5 c/ha, as recorded in the Kaliningrad region in 2009. Grain of this variety contains 13.6–13.9% protein and 29.2–30.0% gluten, providing high bread-making qualities at a good filler level. Dough strength is 327–360 units, and loaf volume from 100 g of flour reaches 1000–1200 ml. Country of origin: Germany. Intended for sowing as a winter crop.
