Odesska Wheat

Odesska Wheat is a winter wheat variety of the lutescens type, developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Testing of Ukraine. Registered in 2010 for cultivation in forest-steppe and steppe zones of the country. This variety belongs to the high-intensity universal-use type and is characterized by high yield when grown on high and medium agrofunds. It demonstrates exceptional positive response to nitrogen fertilizer application, which contributes to increased productivity.

Plants are medium-height, strong, with high resistance to lodging, shattering, and germination of grains on the ear. The ear is white, glabrous, 90–108 mm long, medium density with 20–21 spikes per 100 mm of ear stem. The grain is red, oval-shaped, 7.1–8.1 mm long and 3.3–3.6 mm wide. The variety has high frost resistance, resistance to brown leaf rust and other diseases, and good drought tolerance. Seed dormancy lasts 45–50 days, ensuring reliable storage and planting material.

Odesska Wheat belongs to the medium-early maturing varieties with high gluten strength (27.2–32.0%) and protein content in grain from 13.0 to 14.6%. The 1000-grain weight is 38–44 grams. Recommended for sowing in the Polissia, forest-steppe, and steppe zones with seeding rates of 4.0–5.5 million viable seeds per hectare. Due to its qualities and resistance to stress factors, this variety is a reliable choice for obtaining stable and high yields.
