Wheat variety Esenia was registered in the Ukrainian Plant Variety Register since 2016 and belongs to strong varieties of winter soft wheat. This medium-height, medium-maturing variety is characterized by high yield — from 6.5 to 8.5 tons per hectare, and with intensive cultivation methods can reach a potential of more than 10 tons. Esenia possesses resistance to lodging, grain shattering, winter hardiness, and drought tolerance, making it a reliable choice for various climatic conditions, including Forest-steppe and Steppe.
The grain of this variety is characterized by high quality: protein content reaches 14.3%, and first-class gluten content is 31.8%. The 1000-grain weight is 42-45 grams, the grain is oval-shaped, medium-sized, and red in color. The ear is cylindrical, medium-length and dense, with white or straw-yellow color. The seeding rate is 4.5-5.0 million germinating seeds per hectare, ensuring optimal plant development and high productivity.
The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Polissia, Forest-steppe, and Steppe zones of Ukraine. It demonstrates high tolerance to major diseases such as Fusarium ear blight, brown leaf rust, and powdery mildew. Esenia is suitable for intensive farming methods, ensuring stable and high yields with proper mineral nutrition and agronomic practices. Due to its high-quality grain characteristics, this variety is widely used for baking purposes, providing high-quality flour and bread evaluation.
