KATUN is a variety of soft spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) of the Eritrospermum type, characterized by medium maturity and average plant height of about 80-85 cm. The vegetative period lasts 79-95 days, allowing the variety to mature simultaneously with the reference variety Tuleevskaya or a few days earlier than the Predgornaya variety. The plant has a semi-erect bush, a pyramidal ear of medium density with short awns and colored grain. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 33 to 39 grams, and grain natural weight reaches 780 g/l.
The variety is distinguished by high resistance to sprouting on the root and lodging, ensuring harvest stability. KATUN demonstrates good drought resistance at the level of standard varieties and possesses moderate resistance to fusarium head blight, powdery bunt, and loose smut. At the same time, the variety is susceptible to septoria and root rots, as well as powdery mildew. High resistance to diseases and stress factors makes this variety plastic and reliable for cultivation.
The yield of the KATUN variety in the West Siberian region averages 39.8 c/ha, exceeding the standard average by 4.2 c/ha, with maximum figures of up to 80.4 c/ha recorded in the Tomsk region. Baking qualities of the variety are at the level of a good filler, crude protein content reaches 14.9%, and gluten content reaches 32.5%, ensuring high grain quality for the production of bakery products.
