Wheat Palm

Working with Palma Wheat

Working with genetics from ARI HAS (Martonvasar), you quickly realize that Hungarian breeding prioritizes resilience and reliability. "Palma" acts as a dependable tool in the field—it doesn’t require excessive maintenance, yet it responds consistently to good agronomic practices.

In-Field Performance

The first thing you notice when scouting the fields is the plant height, which sits comfortably between 60–100 cm. This compact profile ensures excellent resistance to lodging, which is critical when dealing with unpredictable weather or heavy winds during the pre-harvest season. The stem is robust, not brittle, which ensures that combine harvesters can handle the biomass smoothly, with minimal risk of cylinder plugging.

Agro-Operational Insights

• Response to Inputs: The variety is highly responsive to fertilization, efficiently converting nitrogen into high-quality grain.
• Hardiness: Thanks to the Martonvasar genetic background, the plants demonstrate strong immunity to common cereal diseases, potentially saving on late-season fungicide applications.
• Harvest Efficiency: Due to its uniform height, the crop is easy to harvest with any standard machinery. Grain loss is kept to a minimum because the spike holds the grain securely until the threshing process.

If you are looking for a variety that balances European breeding standards with predictable results in commercial farming, this selection is a solid middle-ground performer that doesn't falter during critical growth stages.
