Moldavian 238 ASV — a medium-early corn hybrid, intended for cultivation in various climatic zones, including the Volga-Vyatka, Middle Volga, West Siberian, and Far Eastern regions. The vegetation period is approximately 109 days, plant height reaches 248–280 cm, and the number of leaves is about 15. The cylindrical ear, 19 cm long and weighing 145 g, contains yellow kernels with a dentate structure. The 1000-kernel weight is 256 g, indicating good seed quality. Yield varies depending on the region and growing conditions, reaching a maximum of 173 centners per hectare, with average yields ranging from 27.6 to 99.1 centners per hectare, and grain yield reaching up to 16.5 tons per hectare.
The hybrid is resistant to southern and northern helminthosporium, and also exhibits high resistance to lodging and stem breakage, ensuring reliability during mechanized harvest. However, it is susceptible to common smut and ear bacterial blight, and is severely damaged by stem borer. For obtaining quality seed material, it is recommended to use first-generation seeds grown on a sterile basis.
Moldavian 238 ASV is suitable for cultivation in both dryland and irrigated conditions, making it a versatile choice for various agroclimatic zones. Optimal sowing dates and seeding rates depend on the region and conditions; for example, in the steppe zone of Buryatia, sowing is recommended from May 25 to June 5 at a rate of 150–200 thousand viable seeds per hectare. Due to its characteristics, the hybrid is widely used for both grain production and silage, ensuring high productivity and stable yields.
