Alexandrite is a variety of spring soft wheat developed in the laboratory of genetics and cytology of FGBCU «NIISKh of the South-East». It is a mid-late variety with white, non-hairy, and awnless ears, and the grain has a red color. The pedigree of the variety includes lines Dobrynya, Milan, and Prinia. Alexandrite is characterized by high resistance to brown leaf rust and moderate resistance to stem rust, as well as showing resistance to powdery mildew and septoria, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various regions.
The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Penza, Saratov, and Orenburg regions, where it demonstrates stable yield. Average yield indicators vary from 9.7 c/ha in the Lower Volga region to 30.6 c/ha in the Middle Volga and 23.0 c/ha in the Ural region. The maximum yield recorded in 2019 in the Republic of Mordovia reached 59.5 c/ha. Alexandrite is resistant to lodging, which contributes to maintaining the quality of the harvest.
The grain of the variety has high technological characteristics, including raw gluten content at the level of 30% and protein — 15.1%. These indicators ensure good baking qualities, which increases the commercial value of the product. The collection of high-quality grain from one hectare ranges from 2.2 to 4.4 tons, and the economic efficiency of cultivation reaches 3,500 rubles per hectare. Due to the combination of disease resistance, high yield, and grain quality, the Alexandrite variety is a promising choice for agrarians.
