Granny is a medium-maturing, high-yielding, and plastic winter wheat variety characterized by compact plant height of 77-80 cm and a vegetation period of 80-99 days. It matures 1-2 days earlier than the variety Darya and features a strong flag leaf, upright or semi-upright plant habit, and resistance to lodging. The thousand-grain weight ranges from 31 to 47 grams, and the hectoliter weight is approximately 79.7 kg. The ear is spindle-shaped, loose-medium density, white in color, with colored kernels. The variety belongs to the erythrospermum type and has a strong waxy coating on the upper internode of the straw and the sheath of the flag leaf.
Granny exhibits high resistance to drought, major diseases, and pests, ensuring stable yields across various growing regions, including the Central Chernozem and Volga regions, as well as the Orel Oblast and the Polissya and forest-steppe zones. The potential yield of the variety reaches 70-90 c/ha, with an average regional yield of about 33.4 c/ha and a maximum recorded yield of 66.1 c/ha. Sowing recommendations include a rate of 4.5-5 million seeds per hectare with row spacing of 15-18 cm.
Granny is valued for its high bread-making qualities, matching the level of a good filler. The protein content in the grain is 13.2-15%, the glassiness is around 55%, and the gluten content reaches 25%. These characteristics make the variety highly sought after for producing high-quality bakery products. Due to its frost resistance, lodging resistance, disease resistance, and high plasticity under adverse conditions, Granny is a reliable choice for farmers aiming to achieve stable and high-quality yields.
