NS 40C is a winter soft wheat variety, developed by NS Seme, a Serbian selection. It is characterized by high cold resistance and resilience to extreme weather conditions, including frost and drought. The plant has a medium-height erect bush, 80–85 cm tall, with a cylindrical-shaped ear of moderate density, covered with a moderate waxy coating. This morphological type facilitates harvesting and promotes even early grain ripening.
The variety is characterized by high yield potential, up to 115 c/ha (or 7.5 t/ha on Ukrainian fields), with stable performance across various regions, including risky agricultural zones. NS 40C is adaptable to different soil types and requires minimal cultivation conditions, making it a versatile choice for farmers. The grain contains 11–14% protein and 23–30% wet gluten, indicating high quality raw material for the food industry. The 1000-grain weight is 35–40 g, and the test weight is approximately 820 g/l.
The variety shows high resistance to major wheat diseases, including fusarium, septoria, root rot, powdery mildew, and rust, with resistance ratings ranging from 7–8. Additionally, NS 40C demonstrates high resistance to lodging (8.6) and shattering (7.8), reducing yield losses and improving grain quality. All these characteristics make NS 40C a reliable and productive variety for cultivation under various climatic conditions.
