Itaka — the latest wheat variety, which became the leader in yield in Poland in 2021. This variety is characterized by very high yield and excellent adaptation to various climatic and soil conditions, proven by successful cultivation in many European countries. Itaka shows good resistance to all tested diseases, allowing for cultivation with reduced fungicide use, in line with the Green Deal ecological strategy.
The Itaka variety is very early, making it suitable for cereal mixtures. It grows well on poorer soils and during dry years, and also shows good resistance to soil acidification. It is a medium-height wheat with good resistance to lodging, although stem shortening is recommended under high humidity and intensive cultivation methods. Itaka is a two-row variety, developing as winter wheat when sown in autumn and as spring wheat when sown in spring. The recommended seeding rate is 380–450 germinating seeds per m², which corresponds approximately to 180–200 kg/ha.
The grain of Itaka variety is of high quality, ideal for milling and baking purposes. It contains a high amount of high-quality protein with good sedimentation, ensuring excellent baking properties. Thanks to its characteristics and adaptability, the Itaka variety is a reliable choice for farmers aiming to achieve high-quality wheat yields.
