The "Lugovskaya 85" variety is a one-year hybrid Vicia sativa culture developed within breeding works aimed at improving green fodder and seeds. The plant reaches a height of 20 to 80 cm (up to 130 cm), possesses a strong root system with numerous small rootlets, ensuring resistance to drought and poor soil permeability. The leaves are compound, paripinnate, 10–40 mm long, while the flowers are subsessile, purple or pink, with a characteristic purple calyx. Pods are widely linear, without a septum, usually 9-seeded, measuring 35–65 × 5–9 mm, light yellow in color.
"Lugovskaya 85" is distinguished by high yields of both green mass (up to 45 c/ha) and seeds (up to 28 c/ha). Protein content in green mass ranges from 19.7% to 24.2%, making it a valuable feed for livestock. Seeds contain 29.1–34.9% protein, as well as significant amounts of vitamins and minerals. The culture branches quickly, forms large leaves, and demonstrates intensive linear growth in early development stages, enhancing competitiveness in the agro-phytocenosis.
The variety is resistant to a wide range of diseases: ascochitosis, root rots, powdery rot, and fungal rust. It also shows good protection against pests, including pea flies and mites. "Lugovskaya 85" is suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions – from central to north-Siberian regions – thanks to its adaptability to average daily temperatures of 18–20 °C and the sum of positive temperatures from germination to flowering of 600–900 °C. Recommended for sowing in mixtures with spring wheat, oats, white mustard, or corn, where it enriches the soil with nitrogen and increases the overall productivity of crop systems.
