Podilskaya Early is an annual forage crop (pea variety) that grows on a wide range of soils and is characterized by a compact plant with a height of 60–70 cm. The vegetative period lasts from 55 to 60 days after germination, allowing for quick yield of green mass and hay. The variety has moderate drought resistance and tolerance to unfavorable weather conditions, as well as good protection against powdery mildew, ascochitis, and root rots.
Thanks to its high green mass (40–45 t/ha) and hay (6–7 t/ha) productivity, Podilskaya Early is suitable for both silage production and pastures. Seeds of this variety give a yield of 1.2–1.5 t/ha, making it competitive among spring pea varieties. The variety is also noted for its resistance to seed shattering and lodging, which ensures a stable yield even in difficult conditions.
As a green manure, it improves soil structure, fixes nitrogen, and enriches it with minerals. After harvest, the plant is plowed into the soil, which promotes the improvement of physical and biological soil properties, increased fertility, and maintenance of microbial activity. Podilskaya Early does not require staking and develops well on small plots, making it convenient for farms of various scales.
